A LOCAL not-for-profit hub is installing a brand-new sensory room after receiving a donation from our Community Roots scheme.
Basically Cheer CIC is a community hub that aims to provide a range of physical and enriching activities that have a positive impact on health and wellbeing.
Based at Former Parkside Methodist Church on Cog Lane, it offers a range of weekly classes including dance and fitness.
The hub received £500 from our Community Roots scheme that has shared £2000 between four Burnley groups.
Lianne Bruce, manager of Basically Cheer, said: “A sensory room is an addition we’ve planned to complete for a while so the funding from Prospect Homes means we have been able to paint the room we had planned for the space and purchase some toys and equipment that would be utilised both the sensory room and with our children’s & SEN groups.”

Due to increasing demand of its services, the group has focused on strengthening its SEN provision to ensure all children and adults can access activities.
Nia O’Sullivan, head of sales and customer service at Prospect Homes, added: “Burnley Community Roots reflects the belief that thriving places grow from strong local foundations. The name celebrates the people, groups and grassroots projects that make Burnley feel like home. We launched the fund alongside the opening of our show homes at Hollinsgate because it’s important to us that we get to know the communities where we build.
“Basically Cheer does fantastic work in Burnley, especially in building the confidence of children and young people, so we’re happy that our donation will help them support even more local families.”
