A children’s nursery has enhanced its outdoor learning environment thanks to a £500 donation from our Community Roots scheme.
The funding has supported the next stage of an ongoing project to create a varied and permanent outdoor space for young children to learn, play and thrive at Happy Faces Childcare.
The nursery, that’s based inside West End Community Centre, has faced repeated setbacks in recent years, experiencing continuous episodes of vandalism that resulted in stolen and damaged equipment across its grounds. With the installation of new CCTV, staff and volunteers finally have the security needed to invest in longterm improvements that will benefit children for years to come.
Emma Platt, nursery manager at Happy Faces Childcare, said: “Despite working with a very small budget, volunteers have already made significant progress – giving their time and skills to transform our outdoor space piece by piece. The donation from Prospect Homes has meant we could purchase a new climbing frame that the children are loving and will be enjoyed for years to come.”
The nursery supports children and families living within the top 10% of deprivation nationally. By developing a highquality outdoor learning space, staff aim to help close the educational gap between their children and peers from more advantaged backgrounds. The nursery also welcomes families to join in activities and development sessions, ensuring support is offered to the whole family unit.
